I repeat the Rev. Otis Moss III is THE TRUTH.*
“The institution of marriage, my brother, is not under attack because of the President’s words. Marriage was under attack years ago when men viewed women as property and children as trophies of their sexual prowess. Marriage is under attack by low wages, high incarceration and lack of education. Marriage is under attack by clergy who think nothing of stepping outside of the bounds of marriage to sleep with ‘preaching groupies.’” “Same gender couples have not caused high divorce rate, but our adolescent views of relationships and our inability as a community to come to grips with the ethic of love and commitment— we still mistake sex for love and romance for commitment.”
*Lord don’t let this man say something crazy next week and negate all of this. That would make me sad. Amen.

If I lived in Chicago, I would be in the first pew with a ziplock full of Garrett’s in my purse every Sunday!

An open letter to my boy

Dear Matthew:

This is the easiest and most fun thing I’ve ever written. I love you because you’re:

Brilliant.

Creative.

Hilarious.

Brave.

Outgoing.

An independent thinker.

You question everything.

You never take no for an answer.

An optimist.

A dreamer.

Super cute. (Ok, I think you’re beautiful, but I’m sure that makes you gag.)

Musically gifted.

Naturally athletic.

Emotional.

A “ridiculous man.” ~ Tracy Jordan, “30 Rock”

Why Black Women Are Fat

From the New York Times:

How many middle-aged white women fear their husbands will find them less attractive if their weight drops to less than 200 pounds? I have yet to meet one.

But I know many black women whose sane, handsome, successful husbands worry when their women start losing weight. My lawyer husband is one.

Wow.

Barbara Robbins was 21 when she moved to Saigon to work for the CIA.
She became the first female (and youngest ever) CIA staffer to be killed in the line of duty, in 1965, and the first woman to die in the Vietnam War.
Her name and service wouldn’t be honored for another 45 years.

Most beautiful Playbill I’ve ever seen. I’m going to be a stage-dooring fool when I see this.

"The thing that all geeks have in common (other than carbon) is not what we are interested in, but how we go about consuming our interests … geeks are rarely a passive audience. We devour our interests. We are driven to know how things work. We are, perhaps, the most enthusiastic people on the planet."

— Yes! This is ME! (I could cry. Where was Mary Sue in 1987?)
